What Vaktari is

RPD Vaktari is a family of programs by RPD Engineering for knowing what is happening on the shop floor without having to go and look. Machines and vision systems already write files about what they do; Vaktari reads them and turns them into screens you look at with a browser, from any computer on the network.

The name

Vaktari is Icelandic for watchman. In late 18th-century Reykjavík he was the man who walked the streets at night with a lantern and an hourglass, watching for fires and thieves, and who sang a verse every hour to let people know all was well.

The program does the same job in the factory: it keeps watch without stopping, and it warns.
